RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC has signed Austin Guerrero, Damion Lewis, Yosimar Hernandez, Aidan Apodaca, and Marky Hernandez pending league and federation approval, the club announced Thursday.
All five players are have participated in Reno 1868 FC’s preseason training.
Austin Guerrero is a veteran goalkeeper with years of experience playing for numerous Liga MX teams after beginning his professional career with the Portland Timbers U23s in 2009. In Liga MX the goalkeeper played for Tigres UANL, Altamira FC, Puebla FC, and FC Alianza of Liga Panamena de Futbol. Guerrero was also called up to the U.S. U-20 National Team Camp during the winter of 2008. He spent his college years playing for the University of Portland where he was a three-time All-WCC First Team selection and became Pilot’s all-time leader in saves with 346. In 2018 Guerrero signed with USL team North Carolina FC where he appeared in one match.
Damion Lewis is also a goalkeeper who joins Reno after playing two seasons at Chico State. In 2018 he made 61 saves for the program. Lewis saw First Team All-CCAA honors and was the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. Prior to his career at Chico State the goalkeeper played two seasons in the Cal State Northridge program.
Yosimar Hernandez is a defender who spent four years playing for the UC Riverside’s Men’s Soccer Team. In 2016 the defender was one of six players on his University team who saw action in all 20 of the season’s matches. In 2011 Hernandez was called up to the U.S. U-15 National Team
Aidan Apodaca is a forward originally from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. He played his college years at California Baptist University where he made a total of 68 appearances for the Lancers and tallied 48 goals and 12 assists. The forward was selected 55th overall in the 2018 MLS Superdraft by the Philadelphia Union and was later loaned to the club’s USL affiliate Bethlehem Steel FC. In the 2018 season Apodaca had 17 appearances for the club, scored two goals, and had two assists.
Marky Hernandez comes to Reno after playing his junior and senior years of college at Cal State Fullerton. In his two seasons with the Titans he appeared in 40 games, had four goals, and four assists. Prior to his two years at Cal State Fullerton, he began his college career with two years at Golden West Junior College.
“It’s really good to get a young group with potential so we can see how they all grow and develop over the next couple of years,” head coach Ian Russell said Thursday. “It’s also great to sign a couple of goalkeepers and really add to our goalkeeper depth.”
