RENO — Reno 1868 FC’s first match will be against Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes Saturday, February 18, at Greater Nevada Field, with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m. PT. The match will be part of Reno 1868 FC’s preseason lineup.
This will be the first time a major league team, from any sport, will play in Reno.
“This is a great opportunity for the city of Reno to see their team play for the first time and facing an MLS team is icing on the cake,” said Andy Smith, general manager of Reno 1868 FC. “I’m excited for our fans and the opportunity this affords our players. What an awesome way to kick off a franchise!”
A previous match hosted at Greater Nevada Field set a historical tone for Reno, pitting Liverpool’s U21 team against Sacramento Republic FC, premiering the first European team to play in Northern Nevada.
“Bringing the world’s sport to Reno has meant more opportunities for Northern Nevada to experience world class games close to home,” said Eric Edelstein, president of Reno 1868 FC and the Reno Aces. “Games like this will continue to showcase the sport and grow the game here in Reno.”
Tickets to the inaugural Reno 1868 FC match against the San Jose Earthquakes will be included in the season ticket package. Current season ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets for this game here or by calling their Reno 1868 FC account executive at 775-334-7001.
Greater Nevada Field will host up to 18 matches in 2017, with 16 coming as regular-season matches for Reno 1868 FC during its inaugural USL campaign. The USL previously announced the regular season will expand to 32 matches beginning in 2017.
Since the franchise was announced in September 2015, Reno 1868 FC has unveiled its club name, colors, crest and home-jersey kit. The away kit and coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
