RENO – Reno 1868 FC will play a friendly against Sacramento Republic FC on March 11, 2017, the club announced today. This is the first time the team will face an opponent from the United Soccer League.
“Republic FC has established itself as a perennial contender in the USL,” said Ian Russell, head coach of Reno 1868 FC. “This game will undoubtedly prepare us for our inaugural season.”
Greater Nevada Field hosted Republic FC twice in the last year. The first time marked Greater Nevada Field’s inaugural soccer match and showcased a friendly between Republic FC and Liverpool FC U21s. Republic FC played in Reno a second time against Real Monarchs SLC, premiering the first USL regular season game to be played at Greater Nevada Field.
“When we play Sacramento the stakes will always be elevated,” said Andy Smith, general manager of Reno 1868 FC. “This will be the first of many rivalry matches in the years to come.”
