RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC midfielder, Junior Burgos has been called to represent the El Salvador national team. Burgos will play with El Salvador from March 20-27 in two friendlies during the FIFA international break. Burgos is the first player in 1868 FC history to be called upon by a national team.
“This is a big moment for our club,” said Andy Smith, general manager of Reno 1868 FC. “Having a player called up to their respective national team shows the caliber of talent we have in Reno.”
On March 22, Burgos and the El Salvador national team will face the country of Curaçao for the first friendly. The following match will be played on March 26 against Club Deportivo Olimpia of the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras (Honduran National Professional Football League) in Houston, Texas at The BBVA Compass stadium.
“It’s always an honor to represent your country,” said Burgos. “I’m really excited for the opportunity to compete at the international level and bring my experience back to Reno.”
Burgos has previously played six games with the El Salvador national team. The midfielder has also competed alongside his fellow countrymen in the Central American Cup. Burgos has previously competed against top-tier international talent from countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, and Panama.
Burgos will resume playing with 1868 FC on Saturday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. against the Vancouver Whitecaps 2 at Greater Nevada Field.
