RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC played San Antonio FC, Saturday night at Toyota Stadium. In front of a crowd of 6,403 1868 FC was defeated 4-0.

The first half started strong for 1868 FC with various chances from set pieces. Reno forward Dane Kelly had an opportunity to tally a goal in the ninth minute after finding space outside the box but skied the ball high and wide. Reno midfielder Jackson Yueill followed an attacking example in the 28th minute but was shut out by San Antonio keeper Matt Cardone.

San Antonio opened the score in the 34th minute when midfielder Billy Forbes broke past Reno’s defense and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the net past Reno keeper Matt Bersano. Four minutes later, Reno midfielder Matt laGrassa retaliated with a shot that just barely skimmed the left post. At the end of the first half, San Antonio led 1-0.

In the second half, Reno mixed up its attacking strategy in the 57th minute when Junior Burgos replaced Mackenzie Pridham. Burgos made a difference in play, although Reno continued to miss chance after chance. San Antonio notched another goal in the 67th minute when forward César Elizondo scored from the centre of the box off a through ball from Forbes and bumped up the lead 2-0.

Reno’s Kelly desperately tried to find the back of the net in the 76th minute when he found space to pull the trigger but was blocked by San Antonio’s keeper. Reno’s bad luck continued three minutes later as Elizondo scored a brace for San Antonio off a right footed shot from the centre of the box into the bottom left corner of the net which brought the score 3-0. In added time, Reno defender Thomas Janjigian conceded a penalty, which was converted by Rafael Castillo. At the final whistle, Reno left with a 4-0 defeat.

Reno will play again on Saturday, April 22 at Greater Nevada Field against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
