RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC played Phoenix Rising FC, Saturday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex. After 90 minutes of play, Reno earned its first win in club history.

Reno burst through the gates in the first half. In the second minute, forward Dane Kelly found space for a run through the middle and scored off a right footed shot from the centre of the box off an assist by Brian Brown. Reno gave Phoenix Rising no chance to retaliate when Kelly scored a brace just four minutes later off a left footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net. In the 39th minute, Phoenix Rising had a chance to tally a goal when Forward Chris Cortez shot a ball from close range only to be blocked by the hands of Reno’s goalkeeper, Matt Bersano.

In the second half, Reno didn’t step off the pedal. After scoring two goals in the first half, Dane Kelly notched his first hat trick for Reno in the 66th minute off a right footed shot from the centre of the box to put Reno in the lead 3-0. Midfielder Chris Wehan notched his first goal for Reno 10 minutes later from a left footed shot under heavy pressure to put Reno ahead 4-0 and cement the club’s victory.  

At the final whistle, Reno came out with its first win in club history. Reno will play its next match on the road In the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. (opponent is to be determined.) Reno will return to Greater Nevada Field to play Seattle Sounders 2 on Saturday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m.
