Reno 1868 FC claims first home victory against Seattle Sounders 2

RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC played Seattle Sounders 2, Saturday night at Greater Nevada Field. In front of a crowd of 5,711 people, Reno claimed a thrilling 6-0 win.

In the 34th minute Reno forward Dane Kelly completed a hat trick after converting his second penalty with a right footed shot past Seattle’s keeper, Bryan Meredith.

The first 15 minutes of play was a struggle for Reno as both sides fought for possession. In the 28th minute, the mood changed when Kelly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net off a sly pass from defender Brent Richards. In the 31st minute, Seattle forward Irvin Parra made a shaky challenge on Antoine Hoppenot to provide Reno a penalty kick. A minute later, Kelly converted the penalty and put Reno ahead 2-0.

In the 34th minute, Reno’s Hoppenot drew another foul in the box for another penalty as Seattle defender Rodrigue Ele was shown a red card. Kelly would take his second penalty a minute after to claim his hat trick and put Reno ahead 3-0. The 44th minute brought Reno’s fourth goal as Lindo Mfeka found space in the box to make a left-footed shot into the center of the goal and put Reno ahead 4-0 at halftime.

Reno didn’t stop at four goals in the second half and capitalized on Seattle’s 10-man team. Just three minutes into the second half Reno’s Seth Casiple scored off a right footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box into the bottom right corner off a cross from Dembakwi Yomba. Reno continued to hold 70 percent possession until the end when defender Jimmy Ockford made an athletic header into the bottom right corner of the net off an assist by Junior Burgos’ cross following a corner and left the final score 6-0.

At the final whistle, Reno came out with its first home win in club history. Reno will play its next match, May 24 at Greater Nevada field against the Tulsa Roughnecks at 7:30 p.m.
