RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC takes its potent attack to Portland aiming to build on its playoff hunt.
Reno meets Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday (7 p.m.) for the first time this season in what will be the first of three matches.
Reno 1868 FC sits at seventh in the standings even after a close 2-1 defeat on the road against Real Monarchs SLC.
Midfielder Antoine Hoppenot recorded his fifth goal of the season in that match and has helped Reno score the second-most goals in the USL (29).
His goal was set up by one of the top shot creators in the USL, midfielder Chris Wehan. Reno’s passing accuracy (80 percent) has helped create chances throughout the past month.
Reno forward Dane Kelly leads the USL in goals scored with 12 this season, one ahead of fellow Jamaican Romario Williams.
Portland Timbers 2 has lost its past five matches and have just one win this season.
Unlike Reno’s attack, Portland has produced the fewest goals in the Western Conference this season scoring just 8 goals.
Midfielder Villyan Bijev leads Portland with four goals.
Following Saturday’s match in Portland, Reno 1868 FC will return home for a three-game homestand beginning with a showdown against Phoenix Rising FC on June 30.
Fans are encouraged to wear blue for the “Blue Out” at Greater Nevada Field. Tickets for that match are still available at Reno1868FC.com/tickets.
