PORTLAND, Ore. – Reno 1868 FC bounced back in a big way on Saturday with a 2-0 road win against Portland Timbers 2.

Reno took the first meeting between two clubs after fantastic midfield play proved to be the difference. After a defensive battle in the first half, both teams entered their respective locker rooms without a goal.

Reno 1868 FC had numerous attempts on goal in the first half, but the intensity for both teams picked up after the second half began.

Great saves by Reno goalkeeper Matt Bersano and a fantastic effort by Reno’s back line fended off attacks and counter attacks by a speedy Portland team.

On the flipside, Reno’s chances on goal finally paid off in the 55th minute when former Timbers 2 player and current Reno midfielder Seth Casiple put Reno up 1-0.

Reno 1868 FC controlled the tempo the remainder of the second half and defender Luis Felipe added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute off a Brian Brown assist.

The goal was Felipe’s second goal this season.

Bersano recorded his fourth clean sheet and helped Reno add another three points this season.

Reno 1868 FC (6-4-3, 21 points) remains in the thick of the USL playoff race.

Reno 1868 FC returns back home to Greater Nevada Field on June 30 to host Phoenix Rising FC at 7:30 p.m.
