Reno 1868 FC Takes Its High-Scoring Attack Abroad

RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC heads to Canada for its first international trip as one of the highest scoring teams in the United States takes on Whitecaps FC 2 for the second time this season.

Both teams tied 1-1 in Reno’s second USL match at Greater Nevada Field back on April 1.  

Led by goal-scorer Dane Kelly (13 goals), Reno has remained unbeaten in four of its last five matches and is coming off an international friendly against Atlas FC.

Reno set a new USL record for biggest win in league history after topping LA Galaxy II 9-0 on July 3, the team’s last USL match played.

Aside from Kelly, Reno 1868 FC is paced by midfielder/forward Antoine Hoppenot (six goals, five assists, 30 chances created) and attacking midfielder Chris Wehan (three goals, seven assists and 38 chances created).

Reno sits in fourth place in the USL’s Western Conference standings.

Vancouver is coming off a 1-0 loss to Swope Park Rangers on Wednesday and finds itself in the lower half of the USL standings (12th in the west).

Led by Marco Bustos (five goals), Whitecaps FC 2 aim to get back on track as they enter the second half of the season.

Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. at UBC Thunderbird Stadium. Reno 1868 FC will host a watch party at Old Bridge Pub (50 N Sierra St, Reno, Nev. 89501).
