RENO, Nev. – Two of the USL’s top playoff contenders battle it out Sunday as Reno 1868 FC travels to Kansas City.
Reno takes on Swope Park Rangers Sunday at 2 p.m. at Children’s Mercy Victory Field.
The match kicks off a week-long road trip for Reno 1868 FC.
Sunday will be a homecoming of sorts for Reno striker Dane Kelly, who played for Swope Park Rangers last season.
“Playing against my old team is never going to be easy,” Kelly said. “I still have fond memories from my time with Swope Park Rangers. I built relationships with the guys there and now I’ve build relationships here in Reno. We’ve become a really close team.”
Kelly has the second-most goals in the USL with 13, just one behind fellow Jamaican striker Romario Williams.
Those 13 goals are part of the 42 total that Reno 1868 FC has scored this season (second most in the USL) as the teams has established one of the top attacks in U.S. soccer.
If Reno wants to extend its unbeaten streak, it’ll have to get past one of the most balanced teams in the USL.
Swope Park has remained unbeaten since May 26 and is one of the more dominant teams at home.
Five players on Swope Park have scored three or more goals this season and Kharlton Belmar leads the team with six goals.
Reno 1868 FC will host a watch party at Legends Grill Sports & Spirits on Sunday for those who could not make the trip to Kansas City.
