RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC has only been around one season.
But you’d never know that if you met DJ Racis.
DJ, one of the biggest supporters since Reno’s inception, loves Reno 1868 FC so much that he booked a trip across the Midwest following the team this week.
“When it came to deciding how I wanted to spend my vacation, I couldn’t have thought of a better way to spend it than with this team,” DJ said. “We’re family here.”
DJ is part of the Battle Born Brigade, Reno 1868 FC’s official supporters group, and is a mainstay in Section 102 at Greater Nevada Field.
Drum in hand, DJ said he’s proud to scream at the top of his lungs to support a team that has defied expectations in its first season.
After Sunday’s 4-1 win at Swope Park Rangers, Reno 1868 FC remained in the Top 4 in the USL’s Western Conference and regained the lead for most goals scored (46).
And right there in the stands at Children’s Mercy Victory Field in Kansas City was DJ chanting “1868” and “All for our city.”
There was no doubt the team felt DJ’s presence despite the dedicated road warrior being outnumbered by Swope Park fans.
“We heard him the entire way,” Reno 1868 FC head coach Ian Russell said. “For him to come all this way to cheer us on in the Midwest means a lot.
“It shows what type of fanbase we’ve built in Reno and DJ is just a shining example of that.”
Not only did Russell and the team notice DJ in Kansas City, but the dedicated fan could be heard on the match’s live stream.
“Seeing DJ up there on the screen and hearing his chants all game makes you feel proud as both a team executive and a fan,” Reno GM Andy Smith said. “I’ve come to know DJ and the Battle Born Brigade this year and there is absolutely nothing that beats their dedication.
“They are always by our side and we’re blessed to have a great fanbase.”
