TULSA, Okla. – A beautiful assist by forward Brian Brown created the match-winning goal from Chris Wehan as Reno 1868 FC took home a 3-2 win against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday.

Wehan notched the clutch goal in the 84th minute after both teams traded goals the entire match.

It appeared at first Reno would take a commanding win after entering halftime with a 2-0 lead. Forward Antoine Hoppenot’s eighth goal of the season in the 19th minute opened up the scoring.

Just seven minutes later in the 26th minute, forward Dane Kelly converted his 15th goal of the season after a setup by Lindo Mfeka and assist by Wehan.

That goal made it 15 goals this season for Kelly and gave him the lead in the race for the USL’s Golden Boot, which is given to the top goalscorer in the league at the end of the year.

However, Tulsa did not back down and opened the second half by controlling possession on Reno’s side of the pitch. Juan Pablo Caffa made it 2-1 Reno after a free-kick from just outside the box in the 52nd minute.

Tulsa kept pressing and converted another goal in the 67th minute.

Striker Ian Svantesson punched a deflection through after an initial Matt Bersano save and tied up the match 2-2.

But it was Brown who once again came on as a super sub and notched his third assist since coming back from injury and created the match-winner.

The additional three points made it six points on the three-match road trip across the Midwest.

Reno 1868 FC travels back home to host playoff-contending San Antonio FC on Aug. 12 (7:30 p.m.) at Greater Nevada Field.

Reno 1868 FC’s mascot will be unveiled during that match and the first 1,868 fans through the rotunda entrance will receive a bobblehead.
