RENO, Nev. – Two of the top teams in the USL’s Western Conference meet at Greater Nevada Field for one of the biggest clashes this year.
Reno 1868 FC, the highest-scoring team in the United States, hosts defensive juggernaut San Antonio FC in an epic rematch at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
San Antonio took the first match with a 4-0 win back on April 15.
However, Reno 1868 FC will boast a different Starting XI this time around.
Reno is refreshed and clicking on all cylinders with its core trio of Dane Kelly, Antoine Hoppenot and Chris Wehan leading an attack that has notched 49 goals this year (2.45 Goals per Game).
Kelly leads the race for the USL’s Golden Boot with 15 goals to his name after scoring two on Reno’s recent road trip across the Midwest.
Kelly will have to get by the Golden Glove leader and San Antonio goalkeeper Diego Restrepo (8 clean sheets). San Antonio is unbeaten in its past five matches and boasts the top defense in the USL (only 11 goals conceded).
Both teams are entrenched in the playoff race with San Antonio sitting in second place in the West and Reno in fourth. Saturday night’s clash could help both teams remain in the Top 4 in the West.
Reno’s official mascot will be unveiled Saturday night and the first 1,868 fans through the rotunda entrance will receive a free bobblehead.
