RENO, Nev. – The fans have spoken and the rivalry between Reno 1868 FC and Sacramento Republic FC finally has a name.

Fans from both teams voted for the rivalry to become the “Donner Pass Derby” after both Reno and Sacramento polled more than 600 fans for the past week.

Saturday’s match in Sacramento will be the third competitive match this season between the two squads and first with the “Donner Pass Derby” name.

“We are happy to continue our rivalry with Sacramento with this name chosen by the fans,” Reno 1868 FC general manager Andy Smith said. “The ‘Donner Pass Derby’ is and will remain one of the top rivalries in the USL.”

Sacramento took the first competitive match this season in a 2-0 win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on May 31. Reno fought back with a 2-0 win of its own on June 10.

Saturday’s match begins at 8 p.m. at Papa Murphy’s Park in Sacramento. Reno 1868 FC will host a watch party at Great Basin Brewing Co.
