RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC took home the “Donner Pass Derby” regular season series after topping rival Sacrament Republic FC 2-1 Saturday night.
Reno battled from a 0-1 deficit to take the win in front of a sold out crowd at Papa Murphy’s Park.
Sacramento’s Hayden Partain opened up the scoring in 15th minute of play to put Sacramento up.
But just two minutes later, Reno forward Dane Kelly headed-in his 16th goal this season to tie the match up. The goal put Kelly back in the lead for the USL’s Golden Boot.
Reno won a free kick just outside of the box in the 22nd minute and midfielder Chris Wehan converted off a direct attempt to give Reno the 2-1 lead.
Reno’s defense held strong despite Sacramento’s five shots on target and slight injuries.
The win made it three-straight for a red-hot Reno 1868 FC squad that remains in the Top 4 in the USL’s Western Conference Standings.
Reno resumes action back at Greater Nevada Field on Aug. 26 against Swope Park Rangers for another pivotal Western Conference match.
