RENO, Nev. — The biggest win in USL history comes in at No. 2 on Reno 1868 FC's Top 5 matches of 2017.

The Fourth of July fireworks started a day early as Reno welcomed LA Galaxy II to Greater Nevada Field on July 3, a few days after a draw against Phoenix Rising FC.

LA's Robert Castellanos put Reno on the board first with an own goal in the third minute of play after a deflection from a Dane Kelly shot. Kelly would officially get on the score sheet five minutes later with a goal to put Reno up 2-0.

In the 11th minute, Seth Casiple found Jordan Murrell to give Reno an already commanding 3-0 lead early in the match. But Reno was not done yet.

Antoine Hoppenot scored the fourth and final goal before halftime to put Reno up 4-0. Murrell would score again in the 49th minute to put Reno up 5-0 following another Casiple assist.

Defensive midfielder Matt LaGrassa scored his first goal of the season in the 66th minute and kicked off a record watch. The previous high for largest margin of win was 8-0.

Chris Wehan would score a brace with goals in the 76th and 84th minute to tie that record headed into the final minutes. And in the 88th minute, just 16 minutes after being subbed on, Darwin Espinal set a new USL record with his first goal as a Reno 1868 FC player.

Espinal's goal ended a 9-0 win, setting a new record for the largest win in league history. The win helped add to a year in which Reno scored 75 goals, the most in North America this season.
