Reno 1868 FC Hires New Assistant Coach Chris Malenab

RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC has hired video analyst Chris Malenab as the club’s next assistant coach, head coach Ian Russell announced Monday.

Malenab joins Reno 1868 FC after spending the past four years as an assistant coach and video analyst at Sacramento Republic FC.

“Chris brings a wealth of experience from both the college and pros ranks,” Reno head coach Ian Russell said. “His video analysis skills have been widely recognized and he brings a championship pedigree from his time in Sacramento.

“We’re happy to have him join both our sideline and community here in Reno.”

During the 2014 inaugural season of the Sacramento Republic FC, Malenab served as an assistant coach to Predrag Radosavljević (Preki) during the club’s championship campaign.

From 2015 to 2017 Malenab served as video analyst for the Sacramento Republic FC under head coach Paul Buckle.

Malenab started his coaching career coaching and serving as technical director at various youth clubs in the greater Sacramento area while coaching high school soccer.

Along with his youth coaching experience, Malenab has served as an assistant coach at the college level, at Cosumnes River College (NJCAA), California State University Stanislaus (NCAA D-II) and San Joaquin Delta College (NJCAA).

Malenab has also coached in the Fourth Division in the U.S. Soccer as an assistant coach of the Sacramento Knights FC, who played in the MPSL (now NPSL). The 2004 Sacramento Knights, qualified for the Open Cup that year and was the last standing amateur team in the tournament.

He currently holds various coaching certificates including a USSF B License and NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. Malenab received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from California State University Sacramento.

Malenab is regarded as one of the top video analysts in the country and was named to the Hudl 100 list which highlights the top professionals in sports.

Malenab is married to Bethany Malenab and they have a 5-year-old son, Donovan. When Chris isn’t around the soccer pitch, he enjoys running.
