RENO, Nev. – The San Jose Earthquakes signed 2018 MLS SuperDraft first round pick Paul Marie on Friday and immediately sent the defender on loan to Reno, pending league and federation approval.
Marie can be recalled to San Jose at any point during the 2018 season.
Marie, 22, was selected by San Jose with the 12th overall pick out of Florida International University.
After spending his freshman year at Newberry College, where he scored four goals and added an assist, he transferred to Florida International.
Marie made 52 appearances for the FIU Panthers and totaled 14 goals and 14 assists. He was a Third Team All-America, First Team All-Southeast Region and First Team All-Conference USA selection as a senior in 2017.
The native of Saint-Aubin-des-Bois, France previously represented his home country at the U-16 level internationally. He also competed for the U-19 side at Caen of France’s top-flight Ligue 1.
