RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC will face Portland Timbers U-23 in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night at Greater Nevada Field.
Reno and Portland meet for the first time in the American soccer tournament at 7 p.m. in a match that has a possible meeting with rival Sacramento Republic FC on the line.
Reno is guaranteed a third-round home match should the club win on Wednesday, meeting the winner of the Sacramento-San Francisco City FC match. Reno will aim to remain undefeated in its seventh-straight match.
Coming off a historic 3-2 comeback win over Sacramento Republic FC Saturday night to extend its current run in the USL’s Western Conference.
Portland Timbers U-23 is coming off its 5-0 thrashing of Kitsap Soccer Club in the Open Cup’s first round match on May 8. Reno midfielder Christo Michaelson will be facing his old club in Wednesday’s matchup against the USL PDL team.
Following Reno’s match Wednesday, Reno will host Seattle Sounders 2 on Saturday for its next USL match. Kickoff for that match is slated for 7 p.m. with the first 1,868 fans receiving a free t-shirt courtesy of KTVN.
