RENO, Nev. – A star-studded breakout season earned Reno 1868 FC forward Brian Brown team MVP honors, the club announced Friday.

Brown’s best year stateside was one of the top individual performances in Reno’s two-year history.

After etching his name in the scoresheet in the first game of the season, Brown continued to show the USL world what he could do.

His 17 goals in 2018 ranked Top 5 in the USL and were good for the second-most in a single season, sitting just behind fellow countryman Dane Kelly (18, 2017).

While he sits behind Dane Kelly in single season goals, Brown broke his close friend’s club record on Sept. 29 for most goals in a Reno uniform. His 16th goal of the season combined with his three goals in 2017 helped Brown become Reno’s all-time leading scorer with 19 goals.

Brown not only scored 15+ goals in 2018, but several of his goals came in spectacular fashion. His first thriller tied up the May 12 match against Sacramento Republic FC.

His goal was the first for three goals in five minutes that helped reno overcome a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.

Brown’s second-scorcher came Aug. 8 when Brown scored a goal from 30+ yards out in Salt Lake City, which ended up making ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays.

Brown wasn’t done with his highlight plays in Salt Lake City. His most important goal of the season came in the second minute of stoppage time in Reno’s playoff match against Real Monarchs SLC. The goal helped Reno inch out a 1-0 win at the death for the club’s first playoff win in club history.

Brown’s goal was also the first postseason goal in club history.

Brown’s MVP honor is the second this year has he was named co-Offensive Player of the Year along with Antoine Hoppenot on Thursday.
