RENO, Nev. — There is something about Fourth of July weekend at Greater Nevada Field.
In 2017, Reno recorded a historic 9-0 win over LA Galaxy II in the biggest win in USL history.
And in 2018, Reno recorded yet another big win on the holiday weekend. Facing one of the top teams in the USL's Western Conference, Reno was looking to extend its 16-match unbeaten streak.
With a little help from a few familiar faces, Reno was able to emphatically extend its club-record streak.
Midfielder Luis Felipe, on loan from the San Jose Earthquakes, struck first for Reno in the 32nd minute off a Brent Richards assist.
Despite Reno having the upper-hand in created chances in the first half, Reno went into halftime up just 1-0. Reno's firepower would not let up for the second 45 minutes.
Antoine Hoppenot laid off a beautiful last-second assist to leading-scorer Brian Brown who tapped in his first goal of the night in the 57th minute.
Just nine minutes later, defender Zach Carroll found right back Paul Marie streaking down the nearside. Marie dished out one of his lethal crosses into the box where Brown finished it first time to complete his brace (two goals) and make it 3-0 in Reno's favor.
Brown did have a shot at a hat trick in the 79th minute but his penalty kick was saved.
Still, Reno was able to walk away with a 3-0 win in a heavyweight Western Conference bout and continue its winning form throughout the month of July.
